"Le Decision" Is Finally A Réalité?
Finally... Antoine Griezmann is coming to FC Barcelona! He's finally coming to the Camp Nou! That didn't take long at all, right? (Sarcasm levels over 1000%)
That's right! FC Barcelona has finally started to make moves this summer, after the signing of Ajax's Frenkie de Jong and Valencia's Neto, the first move the blaugranas have decided to make is non other than the awaited signing of Atletico's French star Antoine Griezmann.
Antoine Griezmann!? Seriously!? HELL YEAH!
After a long wait, Barcelona is finally planning to sign the French forward next week, on the 1st of July, when his release clause goes down to £118 million from its original £198 million. The idea is that Barça will pay a slight premium, £4 million more, added to the £118 million that the Atletico's star termination clause will cost. But, why?
The cash that Atletico will make from Griezmann is very likely to be destined to the signing of Joao Felix, the young Portuguese Benfica star, who seems to be the chosen player to completely forget about the French man in the Metropolitano. Felix won't be the only one to join "los rojiblancos" thanks to this transfer.
According to a recent report by L'Equipe, Barcelona won't be paying the release clause directly, but rather reaching a regular agreement with Atletico for Griezmann, offering one of their players in order to lower down the price of the French striker. Who's that player? Nelson Semedo! The Portuguese right back has been on Simeone's radar for a long time, so it could be possible that he makes the move to the Spanish capital, as Valverde prefers Sergi Roberto as the starting right back anyway.
The French press also claimed that Griezmann would lower his salary as the price to pay in order to play alongside Leo and Suárez at the Camp Nou next season, and the other four seasons he's signing for.
The British media have reported that United had been tipped to hijack the deal, as Ole Gunnar Solskj... (How do you even spell that name?) is preparing to find a replacement for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who seems destined for Inter, after Antonio Conte's call to join him in Italy. There's nothing to worry Barcelona fans... Griezmann is never going to go to Manchester United!
What you should really be worrying about are Josep Maria Bartomeu's statements in relation to Griezmann's arrival to the Camp Nou. He has denied that an agreement is already in place with the French star, but according to the Spanish media and all over the world, it seems like he's just trying to hide the truth: The transfer has been finalized and the move will be done next week.
Let's remember that Antoine Griezmann announced this summer that he was leaving Atletico, through his famous video "Le Decision", despite only signing a five-year contract extension last year. We will need to wait until next week and see what happens. To finish this (I'm just making sure I have a good word count), Neymar Jr. has been linked with a return to the Nou Camp, but it would take a world-record fee to bring him back.
Ironically, the Brazilian is already the most expensive player of all time after the Catalans sold him to PSG for £198m in 2017. And now... They want him back!? Nice! The Spanish giants could seek to shift their under-performing stars, such as Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, in order to raise funds for Neymar. We'll keep you updated to see who joins Barcelona this summer, and to see if they can overcome Real Madrid's top form in excellent signings this transfer window.
