Real Madrid has been characterised for many years for investing in the best players on the planet. From Di Stefano to Cristiano Ronaldo, and going through great signings like Hugo Sánchez, Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo...
However, for a few years, we did not see any of those stellar signings Real Madrid used to make. "Los Blancos", as they're known, started buying young players, with the hope that they would become future giants at the Santiago Bernabéu (Barcelona copycat). Spoiler alert. It didn't work!
After a disastrous season, preceded by three consecutive Champions league trophy winning campaign, Real Madrid has decided to invest again in a big football star, and they've clearly done it in style. It felt like ages, but after the signings of Eder Militao, Rodrygo, and Luka Jovic, he's finally here: EDEN HAZARD IS HERE! (And it only cost them Madrid side less than £100 for the Belgium star. Blood of Jesus!)
Initially, Real Madrid are paying 100M euros (£89M) for the attacking midfielder, though bonus payments could see Chelsea FC receive at least another £60M from the sale of the Belgian. If this is to be believed, Hazard would become the third or fourth most expensive signing in football history, behind only Neymar and Mbappe.
Hazard has agreed to a 5-year contract and will be presented as a Real player on June 13th, subject to a medical. The Belgian man has scored 110 goals in 352 games for Chelsea after he joined from Lille in 2012, and scored twice as they won the Europa League final last week. Clearly, Eden Hazard is the star that "Los Galacticos" needed to replace Ronaldo (Bale who?).
The man from Stamford Bridge has already proved he's a star at Chelsea. Now, he will change the blue shirt for the white, and will try to guide Real Madrid, again, on the road to victory.
Real Madrid's president Florentino Perez, especially in his first stage at the head of the club, used to sign a world star signing every summer, and the fans loved him for that. Between 2000 and 2004, mythical faces came to the Bernabéu: Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham and Owen.
When he returned to the presidency in 2009, he was accompanied by the largest payout in the history of the club, with Cristiano, Kaka and Benzema as the headliners. But then, the cool and great signings cooled down. Good footballers arrived, like Di Maria, Özil or Modric, but it was not until 2013, with the arrival of Gareth Bale, that another "Galactico" landed in Madrid. And the following year, the great revelation of the 2014 World Cup, James Rodriguez, was nothing that spectacular. Until now! 5 years later, after speculation and more speculation, the signing of Eden Hazard has finally Real Madrid fans something to dream about, who are going to destroy shops everywhere, in order to get a number 7 Hazard t-shirt.
He hasn't even played and everyone is already going crazy. In Zizou's biggest dreams, the Frenchman always imagined Hazard dribbling the ball down the left wing, with Karim Benzema making a vid... I mean galloping next to the Belgian and the two finally combining to make Real Madrid an unstoppable team. The Duke, as many call him, arrives at Real Madrid at 28, and he must create, in the Bernabéu, his own white Iron Throne and rule over all La Liga Kingdoms (Sorry Khaleesi). He's called to be the next big star in Madrid.
Will he be the key to Real Madrid's success in the times to come? Hazard arrives blessed by the fans, Zidane and his new teammates. Clearly, the new galactico is called upon to start a new era: The Hazard Era!
