The 10 Premier League Stars That End Contract In 2020
With the transfer market open, teams are looking for the best bargains of the summer and to sign the big stars of last season. There are several players who finish contract next summer, however, especially big star players in the Premier League. So, it might be more interesting to wait and try to get them for free if you can. Who doesn't love free stuff?
Let's review the most interesting ones, always paying special attention to their market value.
At number 10...
10. Eric Bailly (Manchester United)
The former Villarreal man hasn't had the best season, with injuries and his contract ending soon, a possible exit for the Ivorian out of Old Trafford looks very certain.
Due to injuries, the defender has only made 18 appearances in all competitions.
The Metro have claimed the defender could be on his way to Arsenal if Unai Emery offers £30 million to United, with the Red Devils edging closer to signing Saint-Etienne’s William Saliva (Saliva, what?). Nothing is for sure now, but anything could happen and with his contract ending next season, many teams should keep an eye on him (let's hope he doesn't get injured again).
9. Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham Spurs)
Next one in the list is another defender: Belgium Spurs defensive star Tob... I mean Vertonghen, Jan Vertonghen.
Clearly, one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League, the Belgium man has been a rock alongside his teammate for club and country, Toby Alderweireld, allowing Tottenham to finish 4th in the PL, with 71 points, just 1 point behind 3rd placed Chelsea.
So far, it looks like he is fine in Pochettino's team but no one knows, and in one season everything could change. His price is under £30 million pounds, and for a player that can also play left back as well as his main role, he's clearly a "one to watch" bargain this summer... Or the next one.
8. Nemanja Matic (Manchester United)
Nemanja Matic looks to have his days counted, with Manchester United already looking for the 30 year old Serbian's replacement. The former Chelsea midfielder was one of Mou's favorites, but now that the Portuguese is gone, Eric Dier could be the one to take his job at the centre of the United midfield.
He only costs £35 million, and soon, his contract will run out. The Serbian still has some defensive magic left in him (Definitely not attacking, he has only scored 1 goal all season), so if you wait a little bit, the 3 Premier League Champion could be completely free. As I said: Who doesn't love something free?
7. Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)
In 7th place of this list is for English young star Ryan Sessegnon. He is still playing for Fulham, but seems to be on his way out as they got relegated this season (They spent more than £100 million? And they still got relegated? Idiots!). The value of the Briton is around £35 million so it's very likely he doesn't need his contract to end before someone signs him up for this upcoming season (Probably Tottenham. What a surprise!)
6. Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)
What happened to you, Ilkay?
The prolific German midfielder joined Man City in the summer of 2016 for a price of around £21 million from Borussia Dortmund, and so far, he hasn't lived up to the standards Guardiola had for him.
It's true he got injured at the beginning, but as the seasons have passed his magic play has passed too, taking the role a bench warming utensil rather than a regular first team player. Bernardo Silva has also made it difficult for the German man to be a regular starter (I feel your pain bro, says Sane to him on the bench).
His contract is ending next season and it doesn't look like he's going to renew with the team if his chances to play don't start to increase. So, if you're interested in German players, aged 28-29, and good looking, you know who to call
5. Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham Spurs)
Finally! The top 5!
Toby Alderweireld is one of the bargains of the summer, and not especially because he's ending contract next year. One of the best defenders last seasons in the Premier League has a release clause... Of only £25 million!
I don't know who wants to sign him (A little bird told me Man Utd is looking) but it's clearly one of the best chances to sign such exceptional player. Unless... You can wait and get him for free next summer. Always for free!
4. Willian (Chelsea FC)
In number 4...
Willian? From Chelsea? That's all. No one cares.
3. David de Gea (Manchester United)
In number 3....
De Gea? Worst goalkeeper in the last World Cup and a supposed fax delivery man? No one cares (Probably gonna sign for Leeds soon... You thought I was going to say Real Madrid, right? Ha, ha. Got ya').
2. Marcush Rashford (Manchester United)
The Red Devil leader has arrived! RUN!
Marcus Rashford... What a promising star! The English young striker is clearly one of the footballers that will lead the future, and his contract is ending in 2020, and it doesn't look like Manchester United has offered him to stay yet. He has scored 10 goals in his 33 appearances for the Red Devils. So... Barcelona, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
1. Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Spurs)
The first on the list is Denmark and Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen, who's valued at more than £85 million. The man in form has been key for Spurs this season, as they clinched 4th place in the Prem, as well as in the past (He has played 206 games, 49 goals, 60 assists. Not bad!).
